TSTY 5MW Chinese-style box-type transformer wind power project

Project Background:

This is a key clean energy project for a coastal wind farm in Southeast Asia, with a total installed capacity of 60 MW and constructed in two phases. Located on the South Sea coast, the project enjoys a typical tropical monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of 28°C and humidity consistently above 85%. Salt spray corrosion is severe, and winds can reach force 14 during typhoon season. Twelve TSTY independently developed 5 MW Chinese-style box-type substations specifically designed for wind turbines facilitated the successful launch of the project.

Project Challenges and Customized Solutions

1. Technical Challenges in Extreme Environments

The wind farm project faced three major technical challenges: first, equipment corrosion caused by high salt spray; second, the impact of high temperature and humidity on the insulation performance of electrical equipment; and finally, the strong wind loads during typhoon season that test the structural strength of the equipment.

After in-depth research, the TSTY technical team developed a targeted solution:

The enclosure is constructed of S316 stainless steel, with three layers of special anti-corrosion treatment applied to the exterior.

The protection level of internal components has been increased to IP68, and key connections are plated with silver-nickel alloy.

The structural design was optimized through finite element analysis, increasing wind resistance to 65 m/s.

The transformer uses H-class insulation material, which improves the temperature rise margin by 25% compared to standard requirements.

2. Precise Technical Parameter Configuration

The technical solution adopted in this project offers significant advantages:

Rated capacity: 5750 kVA, precisely matching the requirements of a 5 MW wind turbine, with an overload capacity of 115%.

Voltage conversion: Boosts the 690 V generator voltage to a 35 kV grid-connected voltage.

Protection level: IP54 overall, IP68 for key components, ensuring stable operation in heavy rain and salt spray environments.

Cooling system: Dual-circuit forced air cooling ensures full-load operation at an ambient temperature of 45°C.

The Hua-style box-type wind power transformer is a novel, independently developed, wind/photovoltaic power station product designed specifically for wind power generation and photovoltaic power generation, offering advantages such as meeting distribution automation requirements. This product integrates a step-up transformer (axial double-split transformer), a high-voltage vacuum switch, a lightning arrester, an intelligent low-voltage vacuum circuit breaker, and corresponding auxiliary equipment. It is used to boost the low-voltage power output of wind turbines (typically 690V or lower) to medium-high voltages (such as 10kV and 35kV) for grid integration or long-distance transmission.

In the wind power sector, reliable and efficient power conversion and transmission equipment are crucial. tsty's customized, dedicated Chinese-style box-type transformers for wind power integrate advanced technologies and high-quality components, designed to meet the demanding requirements of wind power systems. We provide stable, safe, and efficient power solutions for wind power projects, making us your ideal partner for wind power projects.
