There are two main transformer connection methods: star connection (Y) and triangle connection (D). These two methods form a variety of wiring groups through different combinations to meet the needs of voltage conversion, phase adjustment, etc. in the power system.
Star Connection (Y)
The ends of the three-phase windings are gathered at the neutral point, and the heads are led out separately, which is suitable for scenarios where neutral point grounding is required.
Features: Reduce harmonic interference and improve power quality. For example, when the high-voltage side adopts star connection, the system safety can be improved by neutral point grounding.

Triangle Connection (D)
The ends of the three-phase windings are connected in sequence to form a closed loop, which has a compact structure and strong stability, and is suitable for occasions with high voltage stability requirements.
Features: Allow the third harmonic current to circulate in the winding, reduce core loss, and improve efficiency.
Other Extended Types
Zigzag connection (Z)
Mentioned in specific standards (such as IEC), it is mainly used to limit short-circuit current or improve voltage balance, but it is less used.
Combination form
The high-voltage side and the low-voltage side can be combined in different connection modes (such as Y-D, D-Y, Y-Z) to form groups such as Dyn11 and Yyn0. The digital part indicates the phase difference (such as Dyn11, the line voltage of the low-voltage side lags the high-voltage side by 330°).
Key application examples
Dyn11: The high-voltage side is triangle (D), the low-voltage side is star (y) and the neutral point is grounded (n). The number 11 indicates that the phase difference is 330°. It is widely used in distribution systems to balance the load.
Yyn0: Both the high-voltage and low-voltage sides are star-connected and the neutral point is grounded, but the neutral line current needs to be limited to avoid overheating.
Summary: The transformer can adapt to different power needs through the combination of the two basic connection modes of star and triangle and phase adjustment, and further optimize the performance by combining the neutral point grounding configuration.
